An air of Andalusia
The English Synagogue is an atypical place in the urban landscape of the Jewish quarter of Prague. It owes its name to the English Jewish community settled in Prague at the time of the Inquisition. But not only. Its current architecture, dating from the late nineteenth century, also participates in this appellation.

Indeed, the synagogue recalls the religious buildings of Arab Andalusia . Its neo-Moorish style, with its beautiful golden dome, is typical of southern Spain. Inside the building, the decorations and moldings are also inspired by Arabic (golden stucco, carved in oriental motifs walls and pillars).

The interior is absolutely beautiful. Alas
very bleak for the visitors.

Next ... it's a church! No comment!
