French architect Matthew of Arras began building the cathedral in Prague in 1344,
the year the pope elevated the city to the rank of archbishop. At his death, the Swabian Petr Parler took his place, he was only 23 years, then continued his studio work up to the wars Hussites. The building had many vicissitudes and was not completed until the twentieth century.
Petr Parler erected from the vaults of 1372 remarkable for their height and the delicacy of their Gothic ribs.
